Where do you start when it comes to your building project? We find one answer in Provers 29:18, where the bible says “Where there is no vision, the people will perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Similarly, in church building projects, “Where there is no vision , the project will perish, they that follow the vision, happy (successful) they will be. “
Perhaps the most important step in a building process is understanding the vision The Lord has for your unique church and incorporating that vision into the mission of the church. The goal of a church building project should be using that vision as a road map to understanding the buildings you need to build to best do your ministry.
Here are 6 questions to ask before embarking on building project. These will help you establish a clear picture of your vision and create a facility aligned with your bigger purpose as a church. We suggest sitting down with your executive team and other key stakeholders to discuss the questions together.
What do we do so uniquely different than other churches?
What are we ultimately supposed to be doing? (mission)
Why do we do what we do? (values)
How do we do what we do? (strategy)
When are we successful? (measures)
Where is God taking us? (milestones)
These questions should help your team start your next building project with the bigger picture in mind, and not just your future building. Your building should align with the vision — and not the other way around. We can help you avoid designing a building you don’t need.
